Ibadan in Oyo state lies 128 km from northeast of Lagos on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway which is in the southwestern part of Nigeria. Also, it is near FCT, at 530 km in the southwest of Abuja. However, it is a popular meeting point for transit between the hinterland and the coastal region of the country.

History of Ibadan in Oyo state

History let us realized that development started from Ibadan, in which the first dual lane in west Africa was firstly done at Bodija road in Ibadan. The first citadel of learning, the University of Ibadan which is called the premier university was established in 1959. No doubt history has made us realize that development really commences from Ibadan. The first skyscrapers in Nigeria are at the hub of Ibadan’s commercial centre. Other tall buildings around the Dugbe axis include Femi Johnson glasshouse, CBN building, United Bank for Africa, Oxford building, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria’s Building, among others.

Also, the cultural centre Mokola and the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium Oke-Ado, formerly Liberty Stadium are in Ibadan. Furthermore, the University College hospital Ibadan was the first teaching hospital in west Africa. Meanwhile, Obafemi Awolowo Hall in the University of Ibadan is said to be one of the tallest and largest hostels in west Africa.
