Ghana formerly called Gold Coast on the Gulf of Guinea has only 16 regions. Although it was 10 not until December 27th 2018 when extra 6 regions were created. The regions that makes up Ghana are close to or border different countries in Africa; and these are Burkina Faso at the North, Togo at the East and Côte d’Ivoire at the West. Meanwhile, Ghana borders the Atlantic Ocean at the South. However it is the only Sea that is close to the country. Nevertheless, this article will give you more details about the regions in Ghana and the new 6 regions of Ghana.

Furthermore, Ghana is becoming a big State in West Africa and its attracting more tourist and investors. So you are doing yourself a good thing by contributing to this fast developing country in Africa. However, many regions in Ghana are developed and peaceful to settle. There are quite luxurious hotels and fun places to check in. Ghana with 16 regions only has 31.07 million population in 2020; in 2016 it had 28.21 million although 2010 census population reveals that Ghana had 24.2 million people. Therefore, there are enough area to settle and build any tourist attraction or Estate of your choice.

Ashanti

Ashanti region is one of the most populous region in Ghana with 27 district and more than 4,780,380 people. It lies in the southern part of the country near Atlantic ocean. It is the second largest region after Northern region. Furthermore, Ashanti region is known for Cocoa production. And is home to Kumasi city.

Greater Accra

Is the most developed region in Ghana with Accra in mind. Although, has 3,245 km² the smallest land area in the country. Even though it is a small area; Greater Accra has the second largest population which is 4,010,054 as of 2010. The population now will be far higher than that. Also, the region is home to national monument, park, recreational centre and many fun place. Also it is well known as centre for education.

Northern region

Northern region lies in Ghana North. It has the largest land area. However, two regions have been created from it. The North East and Savannah regions are created from it. Northern region has only 14 district and a small population. However, the place is hotter because it is close to the Sahel. It is home to Baobab trees.

Western region

Is the third largest region in Ghana; it is closer to Ivory coast and is home to The popular city Takoradi. It is also a base to crude oil. However, having 23,921 sq. km land area. Western region of Ghana is also a tourism hub; beaches, UNESCO site and Nzulezo lies here. Also it is home to The major rivers which are Pra River, Bia River and Ankobra River.

Volta Region

Volta is another popular region in Ghana that is close to Togo. However, having 25 districts. The region is own by the Guan, Ewe, and Akan people. Although, Ewe has a higher population than others. It follows Western region in land area with 20,570 km². While in Volta, you can check in to Volta Regional Museum, Mount Afadja, Mount Gemi, Wli Waterfall, and Tagbo Falls.
