Towns in Kwara state are quite ancient and rich in culture; as many believes that the people of Kwara are Yoruba while a certain percentage argue that Kwaras are Northerners. This has led to lots of events both bad and good. Politically, and otherwise. However, we will highlight and discuss few towns in Kwara state. Kwara which is a North Central State in Nigeria is best describe; as Middle Belt region created on 27 of May 1967.

Although, the initial or the origin is from Yoruba and Fulanis, Nupe and Bariba also contribute to a larger population of this state. However, the population has risen to more than 2,365,353. With 16 LGA which means that there are lots of towns and villages in Kwara State than in DUBAI. So, that is why some people argue about Kwara been a Northern state or Western State. Never forget that the former Senate President of Nigeria, Bukola Saraki is from Kwara State.

Afon

Afon is a town in the LGA of Asa. It is a very popular place and has a high population that is more than 174,152. However, the town controls and administers the public affairs of the Local Government Area; since it is the headquarters of Asa. Afon is known for it Agricultural produce and crafts men. The indigenes of this community are farmers and hunters. However, the young men loves hunting and pride themselves in that.

Chikanda

Chikanda which is a town in Baruten LGA of Kwara State borders the Benin republic from Ndali; a town which is just 3km away from Chikanda. Chikanda is home to rivers and has oil importation. The town is just like Jebel Ali port city; as the kind of activities that takes place in Dubai also takes place here. The people of this community are known for fishing. However, there are more Muslims that Christians in this town. There are lots of Social Amenities in Chikanda. However, Chikanda is not too far from Kosubosu the administrative headquarters of the LGA.

Lafiagi

Lafiagi is a town and the headquarters of Edu Local Government Area. The town is originated from Nupe. However, Lafiagi is one of the ancient town that was found by Malam Maliki. The town is home to River ERO; which is use for Hydrokinetic energy to power the town. Nevertheless, Lafiagi lies very close to River Niger at the South. The town of Lafiagi is striving to develop everyday. Despite the financial challenges in the state.

Ekiti

Do you know that the name Ekiti is also; a town and a local government area in Kwara state. However, the headquarters lies in Araromi Opin but it headquarters may soon change to Isolo Opin because of political reasons. Ekiti has 12 communities and a population more than 54,850. Also, occupying 480 km² landmark.

Oke Oyi

This is a town in Ilorin East LGA and also the headquarters of Ilorin East. Oke Oyi is among the total 486 km² of Ilorin East. However, Waziri of Ilorin East in Agbaji Kwara State is home to the Bukola Saraki family. Although, Alhaji AbdulGaniyu Folorunsho Abdulrazak in an interview once said that the Saraki are not from Kwara State.

Share

Share is another ancient Yoruba town in Kwara. It lies in Ifelodun Local Government of Kwara state. Share is also the headquarters of Ifelodun and belongs to the Igbomina tribe of Yoruba. However, the town is 64 km far from Ilorin. Share is a popular town in Kwara and his home to many tourist attraction. Such as Spring goddess, Stillborn’s Cave, Agbonna Hill, Mysterious Tree, UMCA Bible College, Prominent Higher institutions and Adeshina College of Education. That’s is why Share has more population in Ifelodun.

Omu Aran

Is the administrative headquarters of Irepodun. And ancient town that finds it root from Ife in Osun. However, the town is not too far from Aran Orin. The Omu Aran of Kwara are known for agriculture. However, they contribute alot to the agricultural sector of Irepodun in Kwara. Nevertheless, they are also good in craftwork. Furthermore, weaving of basket and blacksmith is their major work. Also, Omu Aran has a very strong culture and tradition; their festivals are in numbers. The Ife people always grant their festival request since they are related.

Patigi

Patigi which is sometimes called Pategi Emirate; is a developing town and LGA in Kwara state. However, it is another Nupe town that are mostly traders, farmers, hunters and fishmonger. This town lies very close to River Niger and is the largest flood plain area. As a result of the water from River Niger the soil of Patigi becomes fertile. Therefore, the indigenes choose to do farm work. Leading to high peoduce of Cassava, Rice, Guinea Corn, Millet and Melon. Also, the produce other local foods for consumption. Fishing is another Major occupation that they do in Patigi.

Iloffa

Is a town in Oke Ero, a Yoruba speaking community and also the headquarters of the Local Government Area. Iloffa shares common boundaries with Odo-Owa, Egosi and Imode. However, the neighbouring towns of Iloffa are Kajola, Odo Owa, Imode, Ekan Nla, Egosi, Idofin, Ilale, Ayedun, Idofin Odo Ase and Erin Mope. Furthermore, Ilofa seats in the central region of Oke Ero and is nearby to Osi-Ekiti LGA. The people of this town celebrate Egungun, Eji, Again Are and New Yam Festival.

Ipetu Igbomina

The town lies in Irepodun LGA in Kwara State. However, it is one among the oldest town in repodun LGA and shares boundaries with Osun state. Furthermore, it shares boundaries with Ila-Orangun, Omu Aran and Arandun. Also, Iloffa and Erinmope shares boundaries with Ipetu Igbomina. A hunter found the town. Although the hunter was a King from Ila. Ipetu Igbomina is a land that welcome visitors. So, you will never have any issues visiting the town. This is a good place to also farm.

Aran-Orin

This town lies in irepodun LGA in Kwara state. It shares common boundaries with Ekiti and Osun state. Also, it is very close to Omu-Aran. Furthermore, Ipetu, Arandun, Erinmope, Rore and Ilale are not too far from each other. History has it that Aran-Orin origin is from Ile Ife. Nevertheless, there’s also oil deposit in this town.

City in Kwara

Offa Kwara

It is a city in the heart of Kwara popularly known as an ancient wrestling city. It lies on the railway line to Lagos. Offa is an historical land in Kwara. Also, the city is home to Federal Polytechnic, Offa that was found in 1992. However, having a population of 90,000 occupants. Just like Omu Aran town, Offa is know for agriculture and craft work. But they are majorly into Tie and Dye of materials. Also, they cultivate Maize and sweet potato in this land. Nevertheless, cattle rearing is common in Offa. All this things makes Offa to be a successful community.
