The International Airports in Nigeria are luxurious and well develop. However, there are just few of these airports that fly plane abroad. Although, a lot of the Airports in Nigeria claims to be International. But are not allowed to fly abroad. In our previous post; we wrote about Airports in Nigeria and a list of them. We were able to list Airstips, Military and Domestic Airports.

International Flight and Airports in Nigeria

Maiduguri International Airport, Borno

This airport was found in 1950 lies very close to Muronti, Shiwari, Bulunkutu, Shelmari and  communities. But not really close to Sambisa Forest.

Sadiq Abubakar International Airport, Sokoto

It lies close to Bodinga in the South-south West of the state. Therefore, it is use mostly in the northern part of the country. However, this airport is mostly use during festive period. It first date back from February 17, 1982.

Kaduna International Airport

It lies very close to Isira community. This airport is 38 years old in Kaduna in 2020. Moreover, it in the metropolis of the state. Therefore, northerners use it often to fly abroad.

Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport (SMICA), Owerri

It lies in Ngor Okpala LGA in Imo state. The airport serves Oguta, Orlu; Onitsha, Okigwe, Nnewi, Umuahia, Arochukwu and Aba. Also, it serves some part of Akwa Ibom state. However, it’s the first state government built airport.

Asaba International Airport, Delta State

This airport lies in Asaba and serves the city and its neighbourhood, Onitsha. It is one of the newly built airport in the country. The Airport was launch in 2013. The major airlines here are Air peace, Overland Airways and Aero Contractors.

Port Harcourt International Airport, Rivers State

This airport lies in Kaicon Expressway of Sokara. In any case, the customer service here is good. It is also a location to feed the eyes. As you will see lots of Aeroplane.

Ilorin International Airport, Ilorin, Kwara

This airport lies at Fili in Ilorin.  It was fully open on the 16, February 1978. Although, it is not as big as that of Lagos. But it is very unique.

Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano

This is the oldest airport  in the country, before Nigeria gain independence. However, the first flight once landed in 1922. But operation started in 1936. It lies on 50 Danjuma Way in Southern Expressway.

Akanu Ibiam International Airport

Is located in Enugu city and name after Late RH Sir Akanu Ibiam. The First Governor General of the old Eastern Region. It’s the fifth standard airport in the country
